The Washington Commanders are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL, getting their start in 1932 as the Boston Braves. The team changed their name to the Redskins in 1933, and the team relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1937.  

The team picked up the first of its five championships in 1937 and won their second in 1942. The Commanders have also won three Super Bowls, with their first coming in 1982. The Commanders also won Super Bowls in 1987 and 1991. The team briefly changed their name to the Washington Football Team in 2019 for two seasons before settling on the Washington Commanders in 2022. 

In total, the team has made 25 playoff appearances and has won 15 division titles, 6 before the AFL-NFL merger and 9 post-merger. The franchises primary colors are gold and burgundy and have been since they were founded and are classically recognized by all NFL fans.

Where do the Washington Commanders play?

After their inception the Commanders played in baseball stadiums like Braves Field and Fenway Park before playing in Griffith Stadium and RFK Stadium for the next 60 years. The team currently plays their home games at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, and are headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia.
